I have a really big decision to make.
Should I keep making my 4.5" Nonesuch dolls or discontinue them?
As I'm getting more and more momentum on my 10" Nonesuch dolls, finding an answer to this question is becoming more and more important. I much prefer to make the 10" dolls over the 4.5" ones. This was my dream for the Nonesuch from the very start!
When I started making felt toys back in 2006, I made them as companions for dolls. This is why I made them so small. However, as my customer base grew, I found out that more and more people were buying my toys for themselves and not for their dolls. I decided then in early 2008 to create a new plush line and pursue making felt dolls for people. That's when I created the Nonesuch. At the time, I didn't have the means to make them bigger so I stuck with the smaller "doll size" to utilize my materials to the greatest extent. Now that I have my sewing machine, I can realize my dream of making them "people sized."
I really want to take a new direction with Nonesuch Garden. I want my products to be super high end and professional. I feel my current 4.5" dolls are just not going to make the cut as they are. However, I'm afraid if I discontinue them, I'll be closing a door to potential buyers who prefer the smaller size.
Thoughts?

oooh, that's a toughy.
Maybe only make a certain amount of the 4.5" ones and mostly focus on the bigger ones. If the small ones start to become a hassle than maybe discontinue. OR just give the option that they can have a smaller one if desired. I probably am no help! haha I hope you figure it out!
Your work is so unbelievably adorable. You have to keep a 4.5 inch line- I feel like the embroidery stitching can be appreciated so much more at this size. And that accent on your work gives it so much more of an intimate, hand made feel- do you think there's a way to mimic this on your larger pieces? If so, you gotta try! Sorry, I don't mean to push you to an extreme, I just love your craftsmanship!
estela: Don't worry! You're helping! :-) I appreciate any and all feedback.
thehammerhead: Thank you! I think at this point I want to keep the little Nonesuch, but I'm going to change how I make them. They will still be embroidered, but I need to update them a bit to fit in with my new dolls. As for mimicking the style on the larger dolls, I think I would have to hand sew them and that would be difficult for me. I think I'll stick to the small ones when it comes to intricate stitching. :-) Thanks for the input!
I would definately keep your original 4.5 dolls ... I think they're adorable!
